About me

Carina González is a Full Professor of Computer Architecture Technology at the Department of Computer Engineering and Systems of the University of La Laguna (Spain).  

 

She develops her teaching activity interdisciplinary at the School of Engineering and Technology, in the Faculty of Education, in the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Social Science and Communication at the University of La Laguna.

 

Carina is a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2001) by the University of La Laguna and a Ph.D. in Social Science and Education (2020) by the University of Huelva (Spain). Bachelor in Computer Science (1995) by the National University of Northeast (Argentina), certified as Computer Engineering by the Spanish Ministry of Education (1999). She is also certified in “Early Childhood Technology” by the Tufts University (USA) (2018) and in Human Computer-Interaction by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) (2020). 

 

She is the head of the research group Interaction, ICT, and Education (ITED) (Ref. 82937-2009). Carina is the Chair of the Women Studies Research Institute (ULL). Chair of the Digital Culture of the University of La Laguna. She also has been Director of the Innovation and Educational Technology (2011; 2015-2019).

 

Foundational member and head of the Virtual Teaching Service of the University of La Laguna (2005-2011; 2015-2019). Responsible for the creation of the Virtual Campus and different services and platforms such as the Center of the Production of Digital Contents (ULLMEDIA), OCW, CampusMOOC (based en Open edX), CampusMedia (based on Kaltura), among other services of supporting the virtual teaching. 

 

She has directed different online masters like the Expert in the use of ICT to support the educational attention in hospitals, the Interuniversitary Online Master in Creation of Videogames (UOC/ULL), and the Expert in Design and 3D Animation. She is a teacher of the MOOC “Artificial Intelligence and Education ” and the academic Director of the MOOC “Hospital Classrooms and ICT” both in the Miriadax platform. Besides, she is a member of the  Official Master in Education and ICT (MeduTIC) academic board, among other degrees.

 

She is President of the Academic Association Red Universitaria de Campus Virtuales formed by researchers and teachers of Spanish and Latin American universities. She is member of the boards of AIPO (Asociación Interacción Persona-Ordenador) and ADIE (Asociación para el Desarrollo de la Informática Educativa). Besides, she is a member of different academic committees, publishers, and national and international academic conferences. She actively participates in the IEEE (IEEE Senior Member), mainly with the Education Chapter being the Editor in Chief of the IEEE Journal of Latin-American Learning Technologies (IEEE-RITA) and Associate Editor of the  IEEE Transactions on Education Journal, among other international journals. Also, she is a member of AMIT (Spanish Association of Women Researchers and Technologists).

 

She won several awards, such as the AIPO Mari Carmen Marcos Award (2021) in Engendering Technologies, AIPO Jesus Lores Award for the best research paper (2021), IEEE Meritorious service Award (EDUCON) (2020, 2018), the Award of the University Institute of Women’s Studies at University of La Laguna (2020), Best MOOC, Telefónica Digital Education, MIRIADAX Platform Award (Accesit) (2019), or the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation Award for the Best practice of technological transference (2009), among other recognitions.
 

For more than 20 years, her research has focused on the field of Informatics applied to Education and Human-Computer Interaction (Intelligent Tutorial Systems, Adaptive and Customizable Interfaces, Educational Video Games, Gamification in Education, e-learning, digital culture), participating in different research projects and publishing widely on these topics.
